Description of Kyanite
Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral that grows in long, bladed crystals, most often in shades of blue with streaks of white or grey. It is unusual because its hardness changes with direction, from about 4.5 along the blade to 6.5 or 7 across it. Polished beads and tumbles show a pearly to glassy sheen and a fibrous, streaked texture.
