Prized since ancient times, Lapis Lazuli is a deep blue stone made mostly of the mineral lazurite, with streaks of white calcite and bright flecks of pyrite. At around 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale it is softer than agate, so it is carved with care, and a good polish brings out an even, velvety blue that suits beads and pendants alike.
