Description of Rainbow Moonstone

Rainbow Moonstone is the trade name for a white, translucent plagioclase feldspar, closely related to labradorite, that shows a blue or multicoloured sheen when light strikes it. Some pieces contain dark lines of other minerals. It rates about 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, and smooth, domed polishing shows its glow best, which is why it is widely used for cabochon jewellery.
