Dendritic agate is a white to pale grey chalcedony that contains dark, fern-like or tree-like markings called dendrites. These patterns are mineral deposits, usually manganese or iron oxides, that seeped into the stone along tiny cracks. Like other agates it measures about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and takes a smooth, waxy to glassy polish.
