Description of Snowflake Obsidian
Snowflake obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, black in color, scattered with white or grey spots that look like snowflakes. The spots are clusters of cristobalite crystals that formed as the glass slowly began to crystallize. It rates about 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale and takes a high, glassy polish that makes the white flakes stand out sharply against the black.
