Description of Sodalite Stone
With its royal-blue body streaked by white calcite veins, sodalite is one of the most recognizable blue stones in the crystal trade. It is a feldspathoid mineral rating about 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, so it carves cleanly, holds engraved detail and polishes to a soft, glassy luster. The deep blue is natural, which is one reason sodalite is often chosen as an affordable alternative to lapis lazuli in carvings and beads.
